Choosing Diptych & Triptych Wall Art Sets

A diptych is a painting composed across two panels; a triptych uses three. Hung with even gaps, the panels read as one artwork while giving the wall a structured rhythm. This collection brings together hand-painted sets of 2 and 3 in textured, minimalist, wabi-sabi and impasto styles, mostly abstract, with coastal, floral and landscape sets as well.

How do I calculate the total width of a painting set?

Add the widths of all panels and the gaps between them. Three 15-inch-wide panels with two 3-inch gaps occupy 51 inches before any additional frame width. Confirm whether a product lists each panel's size or the overall set size; those measurements are not interchangeable. Size options for two-panel sets here list both, for example a 48 x 32 inch set made of two 24 x 32 inch panels.

How far apart should the panels hang?

Two to four inches is a common gap. Smaller gaps keep the composition connected; wider gaps make each panel more independent. Keep the gaps identical and the top edges level. Lay the panels out on the floor or tape paper templates to the wall before drilling.

Diptych or triptych?

A diptych suits medium walls, spaces above a bed or a pair of nightstands, and compositions that divide naturally in two. A triptych suits long walls above sofas, sideboards and dining tables, and gives a more architectural rhythm. If the wall is very wide, a triptych usually fills it better than one canvas of the same height.

Where do painting sets work best?

Living rooms, bedrooms and offices are the most common settings, followed by entryways and reading nooks. Sets are especially useful where one very large canvas would be hard to deliver or carry up stairs, since each panel is smaller.

Are sets framed individually?

Each panel is stretched or framed separately, using the frame option you choose for the set: rolled canvas, frameless stretched canvas, or black, white, wood, gold or silver frames. Matching frames keep the set unified. Compare single living room paintings if you prefer one canvas, and read our sofa art sizing guide.

Before you order

Avoryne paintings are made to order from selected designs. A design may be painted more than once, with natural variations in brushwork, color, and surface details. We share a finished-painting preview for approval before dispatch. Confirm the available size, finish, and timing for your chosen artwork.

Read our sofa art sizing guide and canvas and framing guide. For a different size or palette, discuss a custom painting. Designers can explore the Trade Program, with no minimum order quantity and project-specific pricing and timing.
