Ask for a straight-on view, a close surface detail, a view across the edge, and confirmation of what each image represents. Is it the design reference, a previous painting of that design, a room concept, or the finished painting allocated to your order? Those images answer different questions. A photograph alone cannot establish the material, the final outside dimensions, or how the surface will look in every room.
1. See the complete composition
A straight-on photograph helps you compare the balance of the whole painting. Look at the full edges and check the orientation. Confirm the size in writing: a room image can suggest placement, but furniture in an image does not establish the artwork’s actual dimensions.
2. Ask for a close surface detail
A close view with light falling from the side can help reveal raised marks and shadows. Ask whether the detail shows the chosen design or the actual finished painting. Different lighting can change how prominent a surface appears, so compare a detail with a more evenly lit whole-work image. Do not infer a particular plaster, paint, or medium from texture alone; request the specification.
3. Check the edge and presentation format
Ask for an edge view or clear format description. Rolled canvas, stretched canvas, and framed canvas describe different delivery states. If framing matters to your layout, confirm the frame finish and outside dimensions, plus any hardware and weight information needed for installation. Our canvas-format guide explains what to clarify.
4. Identify the image type
A styled room image helps with visual direction. A design reference identifies the composition. A finished-artwork preview shows the work prepared for your order. Avoid treating a room concept as a photograph of a client installation, or a previous example as a promise of identical brushstrokes. The banner on this page is a conceptual interior mockup, not a photograph of a customer installation. For a tight wall position, check measurements using our sofa sizing guide.
5. Put the remaining questions in writing
Before ordering, confirm the medium, dimensions, delivery format, agreed custom changes, production and transit timing, and relevant return conditions. If a particular color is critical, discuss an appropriate reference and how it will be approved. Screen color and lighting vary; a photograph is part of the discussion, not a guarantee of a match in every setting.
Copy this request
Please confirm whether the images show a design reference, a previous example, or the finished artwork for my order. I would like a full front view, a close detail showing the surface, and confirmation of the edge or framing format. Please also confirm the medium, canvas size, finished outside dimensions if framed, selected finish, and approval process before dispatch.
